“If I was to make an educated guess, I would guess that Adam Silver and David Stern and the Rockets organization, some other owners in the league, GMs, want me gone.”
-Royce White (Professional Basketball Player)
Number 16 pick in the 2012 NBA draft, Royce White who was recently assigned to the Rocket’s D-League affiliate, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, says that the National Basketball Association wants him gone. In a Huff Post Live interview on yesterday, the mentally ill athlete stated his reasoning and voiced his independent rights and opinions on the matter.
“I’m a problem because I’m not afraid to say what I think and I’m not afraid to stand alone. Even amongst the NBA community, the players, the union, the NBA office, and [commissioner] David Stern and [deputy commissioner] Adam Silver. I’m not afraid to stand alone in my own circle, and say, hey listen, you guys aren’t respecting mental health…”
In a featured documentary with HBO’s Bryant Gumble, I came to know his story…….. & it was some story. White suffers from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, panic attacks and a fear of flying. He also was appointed an independent doctor or “a medical point person” who would make the ultimate decision on whether or not he would be cleared to play. You know, like an injury.
As a result, the already frustrated coaches and general manager found themselves “bending over backwards” to support his condition — in a letter revealed on this HBO special.
Should physical and mental health be viewed & determined equally?
