Lifestyle | Sweet On Candy Crush: Are You Addicted? Find Out.

lifestyle_logo

I was so glad when I found out that I’m not the only one who loves to play Candy Crush. I don’t really know what the allure is, but it’s a fun game and can be somewhat addictive. With that said, thinking about all the people I know who play Candy Crush, I wouldn’t call any of them addicts…but you know how the saying goes, if you don’t know anyone, it’s probably you.
And according to my husband, it is me. He’s always telling me I’m addicted to Candy Crush because whenever we hop in the car to go somewhere, I recline in the passenger seat and play Candy Crush until we get where we’re going, or I run out of lives, whichever comes first.  Also, a few nights out of the week, depending on how tired I am, I might play one or two rounds before bed, but I don’t feel like I’m addicted. We are able to laugh about it, and often do, because if it is an addiction, at least it’s a free addiction since I’ve never spent any money on in-app purchases for charms, boosters or extra lives. But apparently, some people can’t resist these in app goodies, and that’s where harmless fun turns to havoc.

An acquaintance sent me a video link of a guy so addicted to Candy Crush (and a few other games) that he spent $380 on in-app purchases through iTunes. In the video he loses it when confronted by his sister who has to pay the credit card bill. In his defense though, he appears to be mentally challenged (no joke) and I assume his sister is his caretaker. Besides instances like this, I know kids and teens may think it’s perfectly normal to spend big on games and in-app purchases, but what about fully-aware adults? What excuses do we have when we go overboard?

I’ve put together the chart below to prove to my hubby I’m not addicted. I fall into the casual player category, but that could be because I made the chart (chuckles to self).

Casual Player

Borderline Obsessive

Fanatical Addict

Doesn’t freak out when lives run out Harasses Facebook family and friends for Candy Crush lives Looks for ways to cheat the game for more lives (like resetting the time on your phone)
Doesn’t make in-app purchases Occasionally spends money on in-app purchases Spends unreasonable amount of money on in-app purchases
Doesn’t play every day or for extended periods of time Plays often enough to only slightly irritates those around you Play it so much that it Interferes with daily life
Thinks about playing the game when bored or has nothing better to do Thinks about playing the game when not playing the game Fighting mad when you can’t play the game

Are you wondering if you or someone you know might be addicted to Candy Crush? I don’t think I’m far off the mark in my chart, but for some genuine signs of gaming addiction check out the links under sources. Happy crushing!!
