Hot & Healthy | Get Hot with ‘Hot Yoga’ [Guest Post]

Yoga sounds relaxing enough but hot yoga or Bikram yoga is an entirely different matter. You might think why would I want to subject myself to hot yoga? I hate sweating. It’s gross. What’s the difference between regular yoga and hot yoga? Yoga is yoga.

Wrong! All yoga was not created equal!

What are some of the benefits of doing hot yoga?

  1. Its exercise! — Enough said.
  2. The glow — sweating opens your pores and when your pores are open sweat floods the dirt and bacteria out of your face and body and clears up your skin. Because your body had to work harder to pump blood through your body it encourages circulation and gives you a healthy glow.
  3. Breath deep — the humidity and heat from the room will force you to breathe deeply and regulate your breathing as well. As someone who has had asthma her whole life, this has helped me out a lot. It is a good calm exercise that strengthens your lungs. Similar to sitting in a sauna except you are getting fit at the same time.
  4. Sick of getting sick — The heat from the room raises your body temperature. The hotter your body temperature is, the harder it is for pathogens to survive in your body. That’s why you get a fever when you get sick-it is the body’s way of killing off viruses when white blood cells need help.
  5. Tension and Depression — When you do yoga you are required to free your mind of everything clouding your emotional vision. Release all of the issues that bog you down throughout the day and be at peace with yourself. If you can learn how to do this for a 90 minute yoga sesh, you will be able to transfer that skill to your everyday life. See ya later, dejectionator!
  6. Pain, Pain, Go Away –– Yoga stretches your muscles and makes you more limber. Heat relaxes sore muscles so hot yoga should alleviate you of your pain even quicker that regular yoga. Say hello to a limber pain-free you!
  7. Weight Loss! — My personal favorite. Hot yoga helps you lose more weight. Warm muscles burn fat more easily and detoxifies the body. You also lose excess water weight immediately. You see immediate results as well as seeing your body get tone over time.

If that isn’t enough, it is a growing trend. Everyone is doing it! Go with your friends. I was reading People and saw that Vanessa Hudgens does it. That girl is gorgeous. If it’s good enough for her, then it’s good enough for me.
Now that you know about all the ways hot yoga can help you, go out and help yourself and don’t forget to have fun!
