The older we get, the busier we are. We have jobs, families, events, and other responsibilities that make it hard for us to find time to sleep. And of course with new slang like #turnup or #turndownforwhat, it’s seems like we’re in competition to get the less sleep. But are you aware of what those “late nights and early mornings” are doing to your health?

Lack of sleep can result in:

Your lack of sleep is not only damaging to you but can also affect others. Studies have shown that when you cut your sleep to 5 hours or less, you are doubling your risk of death from all causes. In addition, your sleepiness can cause accidents at work and while you’re driving. On average, there are 1,550 crash-related deaths caused by fatigue.

Although some may choose not to admit it, we’re all somewhat concerned about our physical appearance. However, your lack of sleep can be the reason why you’re unable to reach some of your goals. If you’re interested in weight loss, then you need to get some sleep. Lack of sleep stimulates hunger and cravings for unhealthy, high fat foods. For all of those beauty gurus, don’t forget to include sleep in your daily regimen. When you don’t get enough sleep, your face tells it all. You start to get puffy eyes, dark circles, and fine lines.

So how much sleep do you need each day? On average, you should get at least 8 hours of sleep but that varies depending on the individual. Some people actually need more. Your sleeping position can affect your health as well.

  • Sleeping on your back: This position is good for your back and neck and is great in preventing wrinkles. Sleeping on your back also prevents breast sagginess. The negative of sleeping on your back is that it increases snoring.
  • Sleeping on your side: This position reduces snoring and prevents acid reflux. However, sleeping on your side can increase wrinkles and breast sagginess.
  • Fetal position: This position is one of the least preferred. It is bad for your neck and back, resulting in bad back and joint pain in the future.
  • Stomach: This is also a non-preferred sleeping position. Sleeping on your stomach will also result in overall body soreness. It also increases wrinkles and breast sagginess.

Its okay to #turndown sometimes, your health depends on it!
