German Haribo Gummi Bear Maker Dies At 90

today'sheadline_logoTo all my friends who shamefully brag about their medium sized bags of Gummi Bears to my face, knowing how much I DON’T eat candy, you’ve lost a dear loved one. German gummi bear maker Hans Riegal who pioneered the famous bag of Haribo Gummi Bears died on yesterday at age 90.

According to the Huff Post, Haribo said in a statement that Riegel died of heart failure in Bonn, where the company is based. He had been recovering from an operation to remove a benign brain tumor. Haribo said Riegel took inspiration from children’s magazines and comics, once saying:

“I love children. They are my customers. I have to be informed about what they want to nibble, what they think, what language they speak.” -Hans Reigel
