As a lover of candles (understatement: I LOVE LOVE LOVE candles), this easy Do It Yourself that came to my attention, put the biggest smile on my face. And all you really need is an orange. WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • an orange
  • a knife
  • cooking oil/olive oil
  • small candle bowl/holder/vase

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Take the knife and slice into the orange only until you reach the center pith (the middle portion or the white stringy part) then cut around the circumference. Open the orange in it’s half with the pith still attached. The pith should be sticking up like a wick.
  2. Scoop the inside of the orange out (NOT the center pith).
  3. Pour a little cooking oil or olive oil into the orange.
  4. Light your orange wick. (Note: It may take several seconds to light)
  5. Lastly, place your DIY candle in a bowl of water or place it on a candle holder. Whatever you prefer!
  6. ADDED TIP: Remove the inside of the other half and replace on top of your candle to make a lantern.

These will burn only for 3-4 hours. But that’s not bad considering how easy and cheapo it is to do!

(P.S. This DIY may also work with a grapefruit. I LOVE grapefruits!)

ENJOY!
