Does LOVE Choose? Or Do We Choose?

At times I wonder if it’s love that chooses you or you that chooses love. People say that it’s best to let love find you and not to seek it out, but I’ve always believed in the saying, “Seek and you shall find.” Why not engage in the pursuit of something that you desire so badly? Love is everything. It’s what you wake up in the morning and look forward to and what you hope is lying next to you when you go to bed at night. Now, love is very relative; it means something different to every individual. While you love money, I love freedom. While you love her, I love him. There isn’t anything wrong with that because we were all made with the invaluable gift of free will. You can love whatever your little heart desires. The problem is, we all live in this universe together and all this varied love intertwines, becoming a very complex structure. It evolves into something so far from love.

Unrequited. Mutualistic. Intense. Eccentric. Unconditional. Innocent. Pure. Dangerous. Opportunistic. How do you love? What do you love? Why do you love what you love? Where is your love going? When will it expire? So many questions with such a broad spectrum of answers. Why is it so complex?? Here’s another great quote: “Love isn’t complicated, people are.” Oh boy, if that ain’t the truth. Love becomes complex when it is allowed to be thought of. What I mean is, you don’t have to THINK about love (if it’s real); it just IS. It’s effortless, fluid and abundant. Completely unadulterated. It’s organic, natural & original. If you’re in a relationship and you’re “thinking” about love, you better start worrying.

Love is a lot of things, but one thing: it isn’t is painful, forceful or difficult. I hate when people paint that picture of love. Call me a hopeless romantic or what have you, but I just don’t believe it. I believe there is someone out there that you’ll meet… and love will have embraced the both of you before you can even say the words. You’ll just know and it will not leave you. I am not endorsing a “perfect” relationship without hardships, because life is going to happen regardless of love, but when you’ve got what love really is, you have something that’s pure and painless. Love is a force. It’s spiritual. It’s been likened to the wind. You feel it… you can’t see it… but you know without the shadow of a doubt that it’s there. And just like the wind, love goes right through some people, and passes them right by. Unfortunate they are. Whatever or whoever you believe in doesn’t matter when it comes to these words:

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” (1 Corinthians 3:4-8)

Everything about that is good and pure. So next time you hear someone say that love hurts or love is complex, tell them they clearly don’t have a damn clue about what love is!
