When you decide you want to get married abroad, there are multiple things you need to consider first. Getting married abroad has its benefits, but you need to make sure you’ve thought everything through properly first. Consider these 8 things before you make any concrete decisions:

Getting the Right Documents

Getting the right documents is really important when you want to marry abroad. Of course, it depends on where you come from and where you intend to marry. The documents will differ, but you won’t be an exception to the rule. Make sure you can find them out and you take everything you need with you so you can make this day official.

Having a Valid Marriage in the UK

When you get married abroad, you don’t always end up having a valid marriage in the UK. You’ll need to check the place you’re getting married and do a bit of research. You may have to have your marriage blessed or something over here to make it legitimate.

Examinations

Bear in mind that some countries will require you to have examinations and blood tests before you go and get married abroad. You need to come up with satisfactory results too, or they may not let you go ahead with it.

Previous Marriages

If either of you have previous marriages, you may need to wait until a certain number of days has passed before you can get married in another country. Make sure you research all of this before you start booking and buying. At the end of it all you may have changed your mind on the location.

Booking Early and Saving the Date

Ideally, you want to book your ideal destination as early on as possible so you can start making some concrete plans. Not only that, you want to send your save the date cards out as early as possible too. This ensures that everybody you want to be there, will be there.

Visiting the Venue

It’s a good idea if you can go about visiting the venue you have in mind just once. It’ll be worth it when you get a better idea of what you want to do with it and things like that. You’ll then have peace of mind in the run up to your big day!

When you marry abroad, a wedding planner can be a huge help. Somebody who knows the area and the vendors will plan your wedding expertly and be able to liaise with them so the day goes off without a hitch. They’ll tell you this in any good wedding guide. It’s possible to do it yourself, but things could go wrong. You’ll always get it done better with the help of an expert.

Check the Weather

Check the weather for the time of year you want to marry to make sure of the season. Summer in the UK is not summer everywhere else, so this will effect the venue and the clothes you wear. Thorough research is essential!
