Healthy Living | How To Stay In Shape Over The Holidays

health_fitness_logo

Let’s be honest about it, no matter how hard we try to stick to our diet plans over Christmas, we always fail. While the holidays are one of the most special times of the year, if you’re a health addict, you may well be dreading them. You might be looking forward to seeing your family, having fun together, and, of course, opening your presents. But you most probably are dreading all the incredibly tempting Christmas food. Don’t stress, you’re not alone.

It’s natural to indulge over the holidays, after all, they only come once a year. That being said, there is no need to go crazy, and binge eat mince pies, is there? To help you stay in shape over the festive period, we have put together a few useful ideas:

Snack on fruit

As well as all those tasty treats, make sure that half of the snacks you’re eating are fruit. That way, you don’t miss out on indulging, but you won’t over indulge yourself either. Plus, you’ll also feel better for it, too much junk food can wreak havoc on your health, as well as your waistline.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that dried fruit is healthy – it’s packed full of sugar. If you’re going to snack on fruit, ensure it’s fresh fruit or baked fruit that has had nothing added to it. You could even give baking your own fruit a try – check out www.cheatsheet.com.

Make Christmas goodies yourself

Instead of buying the mince pies, cakes, biscuits, and whatever other treats you like, consider baking them yourself. That way, you know what goes into them, and can make them healthier than shop bought ones.

Believe it or not, baking your own Christmas goodies is much easier than you would think. There are so many recipes to choose from, many of which are incredibly simple to follow. If you want to be healthier over the holidays, going down the DIY route is a must.

Have a plan in place for after Christmas

The main reason we gain weight over the holidays is because we keep bingeing long after Christmas day. Instead of continuing to eat unhealthy food, set a date when you’ll get your diet back on track. Perhaps you could give yourself Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day to eat what you like, then on the 27th, plan to get back on track?

A fantastic way to give your health a boost after Christmas is by doing a cleanse program, like the ones on offer from www.uhn.net.au. While not a long-term weight loss program, for shifting a few extra pounds, detoxes can be fantastic.

As well as having a diet plan in place, make sure to have an exercise regime already planned out. When it comes to losing that extra weight, a combination of diet and exercise is crucial to success.

It might be hard to stay on the straight and narrow with your diet over the holidays, but by taking note of these tips, you can ensure that you stay in shape.
