A balanced and healthy diet is the backbone of healthy living. Good nutrition keeps our hair, skin, teeth, bones and eyes in great condition which is really beneficial as we age. Try to eliminate fatty, sugary and processed foods from your diet as they will make you feel tired and sluggish. A treat once in awhile is not going to hurt but eating in moderation is essential. Choose food that gives your body all the nutrients it needs to function properly. Cravings are often signs of your body needing a certain nutrient so pay attention to them. If you’re craving chocolate, for instance, it could mean your body lacks in magnesium. So instead of a chocolate bar which is high in sugar opt for an avocado or banana instead. Consult with a nutritionist to help build a healthy and exciting diet plan that you can easily stick to. This should reduce your cravings and make your body feel amazing.

Start making time for you
Time alone can seem like a horrible prospect, but it is an important thing we need to do for ourselves. Spending time alone allows you to gather your thoughts and regroup. Some quiet time meditating or just going for a walk can work wonders for our mental state. If you frequently get stressed or anxious, then this alone time can work wonders for you. Visit your favourite place and just spend some time taking in the scenery or people watching. Or run a nice hot bath and have a good long soak. Lie back, shut your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. This might get boring very quickly but if you do it every day your time span will increase and you will find it more beneficial. You’ll become less stressed and more calm as time goes on, which will be great for your work and home life.

Stop using your phone so much
We are in a society where computer and phone screens rule our lives. We are becoming less and less bothered about talking to people in real life because we can just text or email instead. It’s time to put the phone down and start experiencing life away from our apps. Start talking to people face to face again or start writing letters. We forget that there are other ways we can communicate without having to look at a screen. Our phones also stop us from seeing things that are right before our own eyes. Spend more time using your own eyes than the camera on your phone and you’ll feel more closely connected to those around you.
Try something new every month
Challenging yourself to do things that scare you is another great way of bettering yourself. It’s also a great way of doing those things you’ve always wanted to try. Be confident and say yes to every opportunity that arises. Even if it’s something you’re not that interested in. You will never know unless you try. Yes, you might hate every second but at least you can say you given it a try. Look for group or solo activities online that you could try. Take that road trip round Europe or scuba dive at the Great Barrier Reef. Whatever it is that you want to try, stop talking about it and get doing it. These new experiences will give you the chance to meet new people, see new sights and build a new skill set. You’ll have so many more stories to tell, and you’ll be so happy you took the plunge.
Tell yourself how great you are
Every morning look in the mirror and tell yourself something positive about yourself. This will work wonders for your self esteem and boost your confidence no end. Even write notes to yourself if you prefer, just make sure they are uplifting and make you feel good.
By using even just a few of these tips, you should begin to feel happier and healthier all round. The key to becoming the best version of yourself is acceptance. Accept that you are not perfect and never will be. Enjoy your own company and begin to love your flaws. Being the best version of yourself requires you to make loving yourself a priority. Once you do this, it’s guaranteed to make you feel better and more confident. Make 2016 the year of acceptance and enjoy every minute of it.
