With February being a shorter month, it isn’t too long until Mother’s Day now. Over here in the UK it is different to the rest of the world. This year it is on Sunday 6th March. So believe it or not, that is two weeks to go. If you will be buying a Mother’s Day gift this year, here are a few quirky and more unusual gift ideas that could work for your mum or grandmother.
Treat Her to Afternoon Tea
There aren’t many things that a mum loves more than tea and spending time with their child or children. So afternoon tea would be a perfect combination. Wherever you live, there are sure to be a lot of places not too far from you that offer afternoon tea. Prices do vary so look it all up online. It is a good idea to book in advance. If there isn’t anything available for Mother’s Day, think about booking it for another time and giving her an ‘IOU’. If you aren’t able to splash out and afford to go out to a hotel or tea rooms, try doing it yourself. Make some cute buns or cakes and some sandwiches. Then you can treat your mum at home. The most important thing to her is spending time with you.

Driving fast cars or going in a hot air balloon isn’t just for the dads, right? Some mums out there would love an experience day! There are lots of different types available. Everything from sports cars to aeroplane rides and all sorts in between. If your mum is a bit of a thrill seeker, then she would love it. Make sure you check availability and see if there are any upcoming flight days or track days somewhere near you.
Queen For a Day
One thing that is easy to do is to make your mum Queen for the day. On Mother’s Day, it needs to be a complete day off but often she will just be doing her usual chores or responsibilities. Give her a letter explaining that she is now Queen for the day and that she doesn’t need to lift a finger all day. You could even do a little coronation ceremony for a little laugh! If you have younger siblings or children, they would love this kind of thing and can get involved in helping. Your mum will love being waited on, hand and foot.
A Few of Her Favourite Things
Like Maria in The Sound of Music says, give her a few of her favourite things. You could put together a little hamper filled with everything she loves. It could include her favourite chocolates or biscuits. It could also include her favourite perfume, bubble bath or lotion. If she has a favourite magazine, you could add that in too. Then she can just relax, put her feet up and enjoy the hamper that you have given her.
Do you have anything special planned for Mother’s Day? It will be here before we know it!
