Being healthy isn’t just about looking healthy. You should feel healthy too. Sometimes, neither of those things are accurate either. You might look healthy and feel healthy, but have something going on behind the scenes that isn’t even obvious yet. This could be something that has been accumulating for a while if you’ve got into bad habits. Sometimes it might have started for no reason at all; that’s life! Can you honestly say you’re healthy? This post will give you tips and advice to make sure you’re not kidding yourself:

You Eat Well Most of the Time

Eating well most of the time is going to make a big difference to whether you’re healthy or not. When you’re young and even in your 20s, you can get away with eating pretty much anything with zero consequences. However, once you grow older, eating rubbish foods can cause lots of problems, including quicker weight gain. You could also get a bad heart, stomach issues, and more. However, the sooner you change your habits, the better. Just because you can get away with it when you’re younger, doesn’t mean you should. Good food will help to energize you, fuel you, and allow you to think clearly. You should also maintain a healthy weight this way. Eating junk food could make you feel tired a lot of the time, and leave you unable to focus. It might not directly affect your weight or appearance, but you won’t feel great. Have treats, but make sure you’re eating mostly healthy foods. They’ll help contribute to a longer, better quality life. There are so many alternatives to your favorite unhealthy foods, you have no excuse for eating badly! Get into good habits when it comes to buying fresh food and cooking. Stay away from takeaways, sugary food, and even pre packaged food. Your tastes will change after you’ve got into the habit of doing this and you’ll find it much easier.

You Get a Decent Amount of Exercise

You don’t need to be an athlete, or even somebody with a gym membership. You just need to make sure you’re getting a decent amount of exercise. Some people get exercise with their jobs, but others work at a desk and lead a sedentary lifestyle as a result. Make sure you’re at least walking a short while each day to burn off some energy. This is important for your cardiovascular health. It isn’t just about looking good! Exercise helps to maintain your weight hand in hand with good food too. Exercise is also great for your mind and outlook on life. You should find yourself able to think more clearly and feeling more positive after exercise. A walk, a swim, a bike ride, a class – it all counts! You can’t use ‘I don’t like exercise’ as an excuse either. You’ll get into the habit of doing it, and the benefits are too good to ignore. If you hate exercise that much, you’re doing the wrong kind! You should do something you enjoy and you can see yourself doing in the long run. You can also do things like parking further away from work and taking the stairs instead of the lift. It all adds up!

You Get Check Ups Regularly

Having regular checkups will ensure you’re in good health. You shouldn’t skip doctor’s or dentists appointments. It’s wise to have a yearly check up even if there’s nothing obviously wrong with you. It’s too easy to ignore small problems in the hope they’ll go away, but it’s always better to sort them before they progress. You might even want to check out nearby STD clinics if you haven’t for a while.  

You Make Sure You’re Clean and Hygienic

Staying clean and hygienic is important. You don’t just risk making yourself ill, but others too. Make sure you’re hygienic when you cook, when you’re in the gym, and especially after you’ve been to the toilet. If you’ve been poorly or you think you might be getting poorly, take extra precautions to make sure you’re not spreading anything. Many people like to carry hand sanitizer with them on a daily basis just to be sure.

You Pay Attention to Your Mind Too

Your mind is just as important as everything else. If your mind isn’t healthy, you could be suffering in so many areas of your life. But how do you keep it healthy? Address any problems that you may have, such as things that have been bothering you. It might help to speak to a counselor or family member to get it all out in the open. Talking can help. You should also spend time doing exercises that keep your brain sharp. Continuing to learn new things is a brilliant way to keep your mind healthy! People think that being happy is hard, but you can actually train your brain to be happy by default by simply thinking of all of the things you have to be grateful for each day. A roof over your head, a fridge full of food – all good reasons to rejoice. You have a lot more than others have, so stop comparing yourself and feeling resentful or like the world owes you something. Fill your mind with positive thoughts and you can avoid illnesses like anxiety and depression. That isn’t saying it’s your fault if you do have an illness like that. If you do suffer with something like that, talking about it can always help. There are exercises that can help you to, rather than taking medicine designed to make you think a different way. If you want to help yourself, then you usually can.

After reading this post, you should have a good idea of whether you can say you’re truly healthy or not. If not, what changes can you make?
