It’s not unusual to find yourself feeling distant from your partner. You might feel like you don’t know them as well as you would like. Or perhaps you think that you’ve been drifting apart, and you want to be closer again. If it seems like the two of you are distant, you can always try to get to back to where you were before. Or if you were never at that point, it’s time to take action and get to know each other properly. There are lots of things you can do to draw the two of you closer together. Keep reading to find out just a few of them.
Spend Time Doing Each Other’s Thing
If the two of you have separate hobbies, when was the last time either of you tried to do one of them together? Have you ever done one of your partner’s “things”, or have never thought about? Leading separate lives because you like doing different activities can be healthy, but it can also go too far. Finding something you enjoy doing together can help you get to know each other better. One of you can share your passion for something with the other, and eventually you might both love it. Of course, there are some things you might want to keep for yourself. But think about what you would like to share too.
Enjoy a Day Out Together
Sometimes you just need to take a break from everything. Spending the day together, with no other friends or family around, is a great idea. There are so many fun days out for couples that you can enjoy, whatever it is you like doing. You could spend the day at a theme park, go bowling or enjoy a movie and a meal. Do something active together by taking a hike or a bike ride, or doing something more extreme. Whatever you do together, choose something that allows you to have fun and make conversation.
Do Little Things for Each Other
The small gestures can make all the difference, so make an effort to be nice to each other. Make them a coffee and take it to them in bed or buy them something just because. Thinking about the other person in your relationship on a daily basis can help you to connect with them. It’s not all about the big moments in life when you have massive ups and downs. A lot of your time together is focused on the mundane, everyday things that you can brighten up with small gestures of kindness.
Learn to Listen
Listening well is an essential skill, and it’s one that many people need to work on. Sometimes the problem is just that you don’t make time to talk and listen to each other. Even just spending five minutes talking about your day can help you to communicate better. You can learn a lot about each other by discussing your daily experience and feelings.
If you want to be closer to your partner, you have to make it happen. Relationships take work, so don’t expect everything to be magically good without trying.
