A CONGRATULATIONS is definitely in order! So happy and proud to witness such beauty, elegance + grace flow across the Miss USA 2016 stage on last night. Deshauna Barber did an AMAZING job representing The District of Columbia, the U.S. military, family + friends and all of her pageant sponsors. She was truly a joy to watch during her road to Miss USA and certainly earned her crown.
But there’s more about the beautiful Deshauna everyone should know in addition to her snatching the Miss USA title during last night’s pageant.
1. Born in Columbus, GA, The 26-year old is a proud HBCU alumna of Virginia State University
— further making her the 2nd HBCU graduate to earn the title since Howard University’s Shauntay Hinton in 2002. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management. She later attended the University of Maryland University College, where she earned a master’s degree in management information systems.
2. As daughter of a military father (retired Army Master Sergeant), she is First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and an IT analyst at the U.S. Department of Commerce.
She is also commissioned as a Quartermaster Officer in 2011 and is currently a Logistics Commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit at Fort Meade, Maryland. Her siblings are also Team Army.

Deshauna joined Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. in Spring 2009 through Alpha Zeta Chapter at Virginia State University.
5. Barber will be competing in the Miss Universe 2016
pageant much later this year to take over the ultimate pageant title from the current, Miss Universe — Pia Wurtzbach.
