Most elderly women start noticing different things post menopause. The fat which used to get stored in your thighs and hips will now take a tour upwards and settle down in your belly. What is the ultimate reason behind this? Is it lowering levels of estrogen? Besides, since there is also a loss of muscle mass, you might soon find a separate tire which you didn’t have in your younger years.

No, you don’t need to get disheartened as women above 60 can also achieve a flat stomach. Check out this stomach workout which seems appropriate for the elderly.


#1: The modified boat-pose yoga

The traditional boat pose is a definite yoga position which defines you in a V-position. You have to balance your entire body on the sit bones and the torso and the legs will stay at an elevated position. But if you go for the modified position, this will be balancing on your back. Hold on to this position for at least 5-10 breaths and if you wish to challenge yourself more, make the shins parallel to the floor. This will work even faster.

#2: The Hundred Pilates

If you are aware of what Pilates are, you should definitely know about the Hundred Pilates. This is the best exercise that you can perform in order to stabilize your rectus abdominis and abdominal muscles. Lie down on your back and lift your legs and bend your knees at 90 degrees. Then lift your head, shoulders and neck off the floor and also your arm. Pump your arms in a manner as you’re splashing water and continue this for 10 times.

#3: Reverse crunches

As you keep getting older, your entire body weight stores down just below your naval. This is the lower abdomen and hence you have to challenge this region with the reverse crunch. The move offers you a chance to work your abs with crunch-action without exerting pressure on your spinal cord. For this, you have to lift your hips and roll the buttocks up and above the floor. Pause in between moments and relax the crunch position. Try and repeat this for at least 10 times.

So, even though you’ve reached your menopause age, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do with your belly. Follow the 3 exercises given above to achieve a flat belly within a month.
