Lifestyle | Body-Positivity + Confidence Tips For the Growing Gal


If you’re not happy with the way you look and are not 100% confident in how you feel — you won’t be the first and you certainly won’t be the last. We live in a society where we’re judged on how we look; the clothes we wear, the make-up we put on and the size of our bodies. If you’re unhappy with the way you look and feel, going shopping and trying on clothes in a changing room can be a nightmare. You need to feel confident in your own skin. So, how can you boost your outer body image and inner confidence?

Accept Your ‘Flaws’

Most body confidence issues start because somebody has things that they perceive to be flaws. This might be big feet, a small chest, or something else. It could be something that nobody else can see. The truth is, nobody else notices these ‘flaws’ like you do. Other people might kill to have your nose or your ‘flaws’. Accepting these things and realizing that they aren’t so bad after all is really important. Don’t focus on them when you look in the mirror. Instead, see yourself as a whole. It might also help to make a list of good points to your flaws. For example, thick legs may help you stay strong and sturdy.

Dress Nicely

Do you like to indulge in a little online shopping? We’re with you. Scouring the supplies of your favorite retailer is so much more fun from the comfort of your armchair. You don’t have to find parking. You don’t have to make sure your outfit matches. And you don’t have the temptation of grabbing a taco on the way home.  One of my favorite items in particular that I enjoy shopping online for are delicates — especially from stores that cater to all shapes + sizes; and even underwear that work well “for sticky situations”, if you know what I mean. Leak-proof undergarments are what’s popping in the panty world for the teen gal that needs an extra boost of confidence; and could even be a life saver for school! Every girl who has started her period should try Knixteen’s boy shorts that will keep her feeling confident and feeling her best throughout the day.

Make a List of Things You Love

Make a list of things you love and add to it as often as you like. Read it as much as you feel you need to to remind yourself how great you are! It could be anything at all, from how much you like your ears to your smile. You’re not being big headed or vain here. SELF LOVE is really important!

Stop Comparing Yourself to Others

There never has been and never will be another you. You are totally unique. So, comparing yourself to other people is pointless. We all wish we had something we don’t have; longer hair, longer nails, longer legs. It’s okay to wish. But, if you’re desperately trying to be something you’re not, you’ll never find the happiness you’re seeking. Surrendering to work with what you’ve got can be a huge relief. You’ve got nothing to prove.

Think Positively

Do you know that everyone else standing around you is worried about being judged too? Turn a negative thought into a positive one by complementing the other women around you. You have the capacity to empower others and you’ll reap what you sow.

So, if you can’t be confident, act confident and the rest will follow.
