Your home is one of the few ways you can really express your own personality and preferences, so it’s important to keep it looking great and, when needed, to improve the look of it. Houses will fade over the years, décor will go out of style and need replacing, and accidents will happen meaning that items need to be fixed. So here are some of the best – most unique – ways to improve the look of your home.
Change The Lighting
Everyone needs lighting in their home, but have you ever really thought about it other than when it starts to get dark, and you need to switch the lights on? If you want to improve the look of your home, it might be your lighting that you should look to first. Simply changing the bulbs that you have can make all the difference.
There are ‘blue’ hued bulbs and ‘yellow’ hued bulbs available to buy, and it might be that you are currently using the type that doesn’t suit your home. Blue lights are brighter, whiter, and some would say harsher. Yellow lights are more mellow and warm, but they aren’t as bright. What would work best in your home?
Whilst changing the bulbs, you might also want to change the light fittings they are attached to. Simple lampshades will suit some homes and some personalities, but with so much choice available and so many different styles – some are huge, some hang down, some are tiny and look petite and gorgeous – it’s always worth browsing to make sure you have what you want and need.
Tidy The Garden
Whilst you have been concentrating on the inside of your home, what has happened to the garden? If it is overgrown and messy, it’s time to get out and do some gardening or employ someone else to do it for you. Both front and back gardens make a statement, and, no matter what the inside of your home looks like and how much time, effort, and money you have put into it, if your garden is a mess, it can leave a bad impression.
Add some extras to your garden such as a swing seat, statue, or a pond or water feature from Water Garden and you will be able to inject some much needed personality into the space too.
A Stylish Front Door
If your current front door is looking tired, you could paint it up and make it look absolutely beautiful. Most doors are white, black, or perhaps green, so why not be completely unique and choose a color that no one else on your street has? It will make your home stand out (and, as a bonus, it will make it easier to find when you have a delivery, for example). Try purple or yellow or, if you want something a little more understated, what about grey?
Don’t forget to change the door furniture to match the stylish new look as well. A shining new letterbox and door handle, as well as perhaps your house numbers, will set the entire project off perfectly.
